chapter1072
Everyone went quiet.
Mr. Norwood turned to Lucinda with a gentle look. "Lucinda, we all know what you've been through, and you're family to us. That's why I thought up this idea. I just want us all to live together happily from now on."
Tears welled up in Lucinda's eyes and she started to cry. "Grandpa, I know. I know you, Mom, Dad, and my brothers have always treated me like family."
She deliberately left Lydia out of her words.
Kylie and Cameron didn't know what to do. They really had promised to treat Lucinda as their own daughter. She had always gotten everything, from clothes and a room of her own to her monthly allowance. Nothing had ever changed.
But if they went public and said Lucinda and Lydia were twins...
Everything would change once people found out. The pressure would all land on Lydia. And then there was the Norwood and Jefferson engagement. People would start wondering if Lydia had come back just to steal Lucinda's marriage.
If they didn't agree to Grandpa's plan, though, both Mr. Norwood and Lucinda would think they'd just been pretending all along, that they'd never truly cared about Lucinda.
How could they say no without breaking Lucinda's heart?
Their real daughter had suffered for eighteen years. Now she was finally home, and they'd already agreed to let Lucinda stay. Was it really fair for Lydia to keep suffering too?
Neither of them could stand to see Lydia hurt.
"Dad..." Cameron started, his voice uncertain.
But before he could finish, Lydia spoke up. I don't have a twin sister. As far as everyone else is concerned, Lucinda is still the daughter of the Norwood family. So, Grandpa, why are you rushing to come up with all these plans?"
Lucinda's tears shimmered, but there was a flash of something darker in her eyes. She knew Lydia wouldn't just agree. Lydia wanted everyone to know she was a fake so they could all laugh at her.
What a bitch!
Mr. Norwood's face grew awkward. He said, "Lydia, what I mean is, when we reveal who you are, if we say you're twins, Lucinda won't be put in such an awkward spot."
"Oh. Well, I don't plan on announcing my identity right now. She can keep being the Norwood heiress in everyone's eyes. So let's just drop this plan."
Mr. Norwood forced a smile. "Then when you're ready to go public, we'll talk about the twin thing."
Lydia smiled, but it didn't reach her
eyes. "So, basically, Grandpa, you're saying it's either Lucinda is the
Norwood heiress and I don't exist, or We're both Norwood heiresses
together."
Mr. Norwood said, Lydia, please don't misunderstand. In my heart, you and Lucinda
are both Norwood girls."
"Fine," Lydia said. "Then let her keep the title for now."
She turned and started up the stairs. After a few steps, she paused and looked
back. "If anyone says I have a twin sister again, I'll cut ties with them.
With that, Lydia headed up to her room. She wasn't about to let them push her around. Being the Norwood heiress meant nothing to her. The thought of pretending to be
Lucinda's twin? That was just
disgusting.
As Lydia disappeared upstairs, Kylie and Cameron were left feeling more miserable
than ever.
Mr. Norwood gently patted
Lucinda's shoulder. "Lucinda, since
she doesn't want to go public, you are still the Norwood heiress. Don't let it bother you. As for your
biological father if he's never cared about you, then from now on the
doesn't exist. Just forget about him.
Lucinda was overwhelmed. "Thank you, Grandpa."
For the first time in a long while, she felt like she had her loving grandpa back.
