Chapter 1085

chapter1085

Mandy sucked in a sharp breath. "It's not him? Then who is it? Someone else from your department?"

"It's William," Benjamin replied.

Mandy gaped at him. "Wait, what? William? Isn't he with Defense?"

She honestly couldn't believe it. William was suddenly promoted to Foreign Affairs? That was the worst news possible for the Gibson family, and for Benjamin.

Before all this, Benjamin worked in Foreign Affairs and William was tucked away in Defense. Their paths never really crossed. William's higher rank didn't matter much, so Benjamin could mess with the Robinson family as much as he wanted without worrying about any consequences.

But now, everything had flipped upside down. William was suddenly his boss. Just thinking about it made Benjamin break out in a cold sweat. His life was about to get a lot harder. And he'd just dragged his whole family over to the Robinson house during the holiday, all smug and showing off because Jackson had just been promoted.

"William... How did he end up as your minister?" Mandy was starting to panic too.

From what she'd always heard, the government usually picked ministers from inside the diplomatic circle.

Benjamin felt a headache coming on. "It's happened before, people getting transferred in from other departments, but it's super rare."

William might have been working at Defense, but he was smart, knew his way around international affairs, had great leadership skills, and was a smooth talker. He adapted to anything. Looking back, it was obvious the higher-ups had been preparing William for this all along-they'd just never seen it coming.

Now it was official. The Gibson family had lost their edge. Mandy's anxiety spiked. They'd made a serious enemy out of the Robinsons, and now William was Benjamin's boss. What was stopping William from making his life miserable?

"Babe, this isn't going to work. You have to ask Jackson for help. Seriously, just get me transferred anywhere else. I can't work under William, I just can't. Any department will do." Benjamin sounded desperate.

Mandy had already been thinking about calling Jackson tonight. She hesitated, then nodded. Alright. I'll call him now."

"Great, hurry, please, Benjamin urged, practically bouncing in his seat.

Mandy found Jackson's private number and dialed, her heart pounding with nerves.

The phone rang for what felt like forever before someone finally picked up. She'd expected Harvey, his aide, but it was actually Jackson's voice on the line.

"What's up?"

Mandy froze, caught off guard. She quickly tried to sound casual. "Jackson, do you have a minute?"

Jackson had just gotten home, handed his jacket to the housekeeper, and was walking to the sofa. "Yeah, what's going on? Just say it."

Ever since Jackson's promotion, Mandy felt like he'd gotten more intimidating, more official. She suddenly felt awkward, not sure how to start.

"Well... it's just... Rosie said she saw your car near her school tonight. Jackson, did you have someone running errands in that area?"

She couldn't bring herself to ask about Benjamin's transfer yet. Next to her, Benjamin looked completely confused Wasn't this cat supposed to be about his job?

Jackson frowned. "Really?" He glanced at Harvey, who looked just as lost, starting to get nervous himself. It wasn't like he'd done anything wrong. Was Jackson seriously going to blame him getting turned down by Lydia?

Mandy couldn't tell what Jackson was thinking, so she just hummed in agreement. "I just wanted to give you a heads up. That area's really crowded. didn't

busy and want there to be any bad press oro

anything."
