Chapter 1140

chapter1140

The minute Lydia brought up Alfie, Rosie started shaking with anger.

She was about to lose it when Carter cut in, his voice ice cold. "Miss Gibson, I need you to control yourself. If you keep acting out, I'll have to get security involved."

Rosie's eyes turned red, tears threatening to spill. "Carter, you..."

For Lydia, Carter was actually threatening her with security? The same Carter who was always so gentle with her? Rosie's pride just couldn't take it.

Maisie, knowing full well how much Rosie liked Carter, started to worry Rosie would go too far and ruin her chances with him forever. She grabbed Rosie's arm, trying to distract her. Rosie, I heard the food here is really good. Let's go order something first, okay?"

Marilyn wasn't super close to Rosie, but since Maisie was her cousin, sometimes she'd join them for lunch. She jumped in too. "Yeah, Rosie, let's go check out the menu."

Rosie's hands were clenched so tight her knuckles turned white. Her chest hurt, like she couldn't even breathe.

"Carter, someday you're going to see her for who she really is!"

She spun around and stormed off.

Carter watched them go, finally letting out a quiet sigh of relief. He turned to Lydia, looking apologetic. "Sorry about that. I honestly didn't expect to run into her here."

Lydia felt a sudden burst of curiosity.

"She's in love with you," she said, not even bothering to make it a question.

Lydia knew a thing or two about just how proud Rosie was.

Carter looked uncomfortable as he sat down. We're just acquaintances. Honestly, maybe not even friends."

The truth was Carter had plenty of admirers. Rosie wasn't the only one. He wasn't clueless. He could tell

Rosie was into him, but he just didn't feel that way about her. That's why hed turned her down so many times. He thought he'd made it obvious, but Rosie just didn't get the hint.

Clearly, he'd have to find a way to make things even clearer.

Lydia didn't ask any more questions.

Meanwhile, Rosie, her eyes still red with anger, found a table that wasn't too close but definitely not too far away From where she sat, she could keep an eye on everything Carter and Lydia did.

"Bitch," she muttered under her breath.

She picked up her knife and fork, scrubbing the handles with her napkin again and again, wishing she could slice Lydia into a thousand pieces.

Rosie, isn't Lydia supposed to be engaged?" Maisie said quietly. "Carter knows about it too, right? He's not going to fall for her act."

Rosie remembered overhearing her parents say Connor was out of the city, maybe even out of the country. So that's why Lydia couldn't stand being alone and was trying to steal Carter.

Of course, Rosie hadn't told Maisie that Lydia was the real heiress of the Norwood family or that she was actually Connor's fianc e.

"She's not good enough for Carter," Rosie hissed.

Marilyn jumped in right away. Exactly. She's just some nobody from Lakeview Town. If the Kevin hadn't made her his student, nobody would even know her name."

Marilyn made sure to ignore the fact that Lydia was top of her class, had gone to the border to help stop a virus, and even caught a traitor. None of that mattered to her.

Rosie shot Marilyn a look. She knew Lydia was the real Norwood heiress. Hearing Marilyn talk like that just made her seem dumb.

Marilyn noticed Rosie looking at her
