Chapter 1255

chapter1255

Lydia's fingers hovered over the console for a couple of seconds before she pulled off the robotic control gloves without hesitation.

As soon as the backup lights flickered on, she had already grabbed the traditional surgical tools. The metal handle of the scalpel felt cool and solid in her grip.

The steady beep of the simulated patient's vitals echoed around her.

"Forceps," she said, reaching out. Her teammate handed her the instrument just as she glanced, almost subconsciously, at where she'd make the incision.

The view wasn't nearly as clear as it would be with the robot, but Lydia's years of practice had turned every move into instinct. Each cut followed a perfect trajectory, as if mapped out by a computer.

When she tied the final suture, the overhead lights snapped back on. The timer read that she'd finished seventeen seconds faster than the robot's predicted time.

Seventeen seconds. That was huge.

Lydia peeled off her sterile gloves, noticing the faint marks the thread had left on her fingertips.

A real doctor never relies on machines alone.

Next to her, Peyton was almost bouncing with excitement, his voice trembling with relief. "Lydia, why do you think they always throw so many crazy emergencies into medical exams?"

Lydia grinned. "Because real life never gives you time to get ready."

When you're right on the edge between life and death, every move has to come from muscle memory and instinct.

There was no suspense about it. Lydia won the championship, hands down.

Noah watched her on stage as she accepted her medal, finally letting out a long breath he didn't know he'd been holding. This girl, he thought, was something else.

After the competition, Lydia walked out with her medal still hanging from her slender neck.

She heard footsteps behind her, then someone called out. "Lydia."

Noah caught up, holding out a pen. Hey, you left this at your seat."

Thanks, she said, taking it from him.

Noah hesitated, then finally blurted out, "I tried one of those questions you made. Couldn't figure it out, but the way you approached it was really interesting."

Lydia looked at him, one eyebrow raised. "So?"

So..., he started, rubbing the back of his neck, his ears turning pink. "Could you show me how to solve the third one X the forums back home are talking about those questions."

Behind them, the hallway filled with laughter and chatter as contestants from

different countries called out Lydia's name.

"I can explain it, but I'm only going to say it once," Lydia replied.

The world of medicine was enormous, with so many peaks yet to be climbed. But sometimes it felt small too, small enough that one shared challenge could bring people from everywhere together all talking and debating like kids at recess.

Lucy stood in the hallway, arms folded, watching through the glass.

Anders joined her, holding a sheet of paper filled with Lydia's problems and covered in scribbled notes.

"You know," he said quietly, Emerson just told me those three questions got added to the official International Medical Olympiad bank.

Maybe real strength wasn't about beating everyone else. Maybe it was about creating space for different voices to find their own place in the world of medicine.

Outside the competition hall, Mr. Russo, Dr. Tomlinson, and Connor were waiting for Lydia.

The two professors glanced at Connor, a little intimidated by his cool, commanding presence. They wanted to say something but just couldn't find the words.

Thinking about it, Lydia and Connor would actually make a pretty good match. If those two ever had kids, they'd probably be geniuses.

In

A few more minutes passed before Lydia finally appeared. She was surrounded by contestants from all over the world each one stopping to greet her pofitely before heading out.
