chapter1296
Connor always hovered, insisting on doing everything himself. He treated her like she was helpless, like a baby who couldn't do anything on her own.
Cameron chimed in, his voice gentle. "It's really no big deal, Lydia. We'll just be close by. If anything happens, we'll hear it right away and come running.
The house was huge. Lydia's room was upstairs, while Kylie and Cameron stayed downstairs. If something happened late at night, there was no way they'd actually hear it. If Kylie weren't worried about making Lydia uncomfortable, she probably would have moved right into her room. But she knew kids needed their own space, so taking the room next door felt like the best option.
Lydia realized she wasn't going to win this one. She nodded, giving in. "Okay, fine." Later that afternoon, Juna showed up, rolling her suitcase behind her.
Her arrival left Lucinda, Kylie, and Cameron a little stunned.
Juna grinned at Kylie and Cameron. Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Norwood, I'm here to keep Lydia company. Don't worry about getting me a room. I'll just stay with her."
Kylie and Cameron lit up.
That's wonderful, Miss Davis. Thank you for thinking of Lydia like this.
They'd been worried about Lydia being alone now that Connor was gone, but with Juna here, they could finally relax.
I'll head up now, Juna said, already grabbing her suitcase.
"Let me help you with your things," Kylie offered.
Juna waved her off. "No need. I've got it."
Watching her disappear upstairs, Kylie and Cameron finally felt at ease. Lucinda, though, looked anything but happy.
Juna was trouble, always hovering around Lydia. How was Lucinda supposed to do anything with her around? This was so frustrating.
Lydia had just finished a call when Juna knocked and walked right in.
"Lydia, I'm here!"
Lydia turned toward her voice. "Did you bring it?
Juna nodded, eyes bright. "Of course. Let's test it out."
She dropped her suitcase and pulled out a sleek black box.
"Only Connor would get something this fancy," Juna joked, opening the box and taking out what was inside.
It was a guide cane, custom-made
for Lydia by Connor. The cane was slim and elegant, pure black with a cool metallic shine. It was retractable and easy to carry the grip made from a special material that felt great in her hand.
Lydia wrapped her fingers around it and tapped it gently on the floor. The cane gave a soft vibration, and then a calm electronic voice announced, "Obstacle one meter ahead"
Juna let out a low whistle. "Wow, this is awesome."
Lydia kept testing all the features. The cane gave her constant updates, helping her avoid anything in her way.
"There's even a hidden weapon," Lydia added.
Juna stared at her. "Wait, did you make this, or was it Connor?"
Lydia grinned. "We designed it together."
There were plenty of other secret features too.
Juna watched her with a bittersweet smile. "Lydia, once all of this is over, are you really going to marry Connor?"
She'd heard about the news and
honestly, it was a shock. Juna knew Lydia sowell Dating was one thing. but marriage and kids just didn't seem like her at all. fo
Lydia smiled softly. "You don't want me to?"
