chapter1307
"Miss, trust us. One billion is a solid offer. After all, you're asking for a life."
Lucinda's fingers tightened around her phone until her knuckles turned white. One billion. That was nearly all the money she had left. Still, this was her best shot, and she couldn't let it slip away. They were the world's top assassin organization. Lydia was blind, and Connor was nowhere near her. They could definitely get the job done.
Once Lydia was gone, everything would go back to the way it used to be. Everything Lucinda had lost would return. She'd be the beloved princess again, the only Norwood daughter anyone cared about.
The thought made her blood race. Spurred on by a rush of emotion, she gritted her teeth and nodded. "Fine. One billion!"
"Smart decision, Miss."
Meanwhile, deep in the Blood Oath headquarters, Lucinda's twisted expression shimmered on a holographic screen. The man she had spoken to was Tobias, one of Blood Oath's top three assassins.
After ending the call, Tobias turned to Iceblade, who was still covered in blood. "It's settled."
Iceblade let out a cold laugh, then glanced at Connor, who wore his usual stone-cold expression. "She really thinks she's something special. So, when are you taking care of her?"
Connor's eyes were dark and unreadable, his voice carrying a quiet pressure. "We can deal with her anytime. But she's Night Eagle's daughter. As long as she's useful, we keep her around."
He added, "You have one day to get things in order here. We're heading to Country D right after."
After three days and nights of brutal fighting, the Blood Oath leader, Nether, had finally been taken down by Iceblade, the organization's top assassins, and Connor working together. Now, Iceblade controlled Blood Oath.
Lucinda's murder request had landed right in their laps. Since she came to them herself, they figured they might as well take her money first.
When Lydia found out, she couldn't help but laugh. "A billion for my life? Seriously?"
Connor's low chuckle came through the phone. "Lydia, you're priceless. Iceblade checked her finances and ser the price just high enough to keep her hooked." fo
Lydia smiled. "You're not hurt, are you?"
She had always trusted her instincts about him. Blood Oath was tough to crack, but Connor had done it.
Connor's voice sounded a little
smug. "Me? Hurt? No way. None of them could touch me. Iceblade is supposed to be the best assassin And you should've seen him right now. All bark, no bite."
Lydia raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?"
"Absolutely," Connor said. "He's got quite a few scratches on his face too."
Suddenly, she heard Iceblade's annoyed voice in the background "Connor shut up My wounds are obvious, but yours are all hidden. Want to strip down and compare?"
Connor scoffed. "Don't listen to him. I'm perfectly fine."
Lydia said, "If you're hurt, patch yourself up. Don't act tough."
"I'm really alright, don't worry."
"Okay, so when are you leaving for Country D? The special team's already there."
Once Connor and his crew arrived, they could get started. Plus, according to Iceblade, Garrett might already be at the clone base.
"We'll rest for a day, then head out the day after tomorrow."
