chapter163
Lydia had wanted to sort everything out and break the news to her parents tomorrow. She never expected them to overhear tonight.
Kylie's nerves got worse with every second Lydia stayed quiet. "Lydia, talk to me. What happened? Please, just tell me."
Lydia realized there was no hiding it now. "Mom, Parker and Rose tried to take off with the money tonight. The police caught them. I'm at the station right now."
Kylie stared at her phone, stunned. "What? They did that? Seriously?"
Yeah. And now Rose keeps asking to call you. She says she wants to see you.
Kylie's expression darkened. See her? After everything?
Rose actually thought she could just ask for her now?
"Lydia, I really don't want to see her right now, but I need to know what's going on. Which station are you at?"
There had to be more to this. Parker and Rose wouldn't just run off for no reason. "We're at the main station."
"Alright. Your dad and I are coming right now."
"Okay."
As soon as the call ended, Kylie turned to Cameron, still fuming. "Can you believe them? I treated her like my own sister all these years."
Cameron had heard the whole conversation. He put a comforting hand on her back. "At least now we know what kind of people they really are. Let's get to the station. Something tells me there's more to all this than Lydia's letting on."
"I think so too. Let's go."
While Cameron and Kylie hurried out of the building, a shadow slipped out from the corner of the upstairs landing. Lucinda.
She'd been waiting for Lydia to come home all night, only for her parents to say that Lydia had gone back to Lakeview Town.
Lucinda couldn't help hoping Lydia would just stay gone. But after dinner, her parents did nothing but sit in the living room and wait, calling Lydia over and over.
When Lydia didn't answer, her dad got so worked up he nearly sent the whole security team out to look for her.
Before, in this house, she was the only one they ever worried about. Now, all their attention was on Lydia. They even said they couldn't sleep until she was home.
Seriously? She'd gone out to eat and celebrate with friends plenty of times. Her parents never waited up for her.
They were so obvious with their favoritism.
She heard a car start outside and frowned, annoyed.
From the phone conversation earlier, it sounded like Parker and Rose got themselves in trouble and were at the police station.
Did they finally snap and do something to Lydia?
The thought made Lucinda's lips
curl in a mean little smile. No wonder Lydia still wasn't home

Cameron and Kylie got to the police station fast. Outside, their daughter was already waiting for them.
Lydia stood tall, looking calm and collected, the early morning darkness making her seem even cooler.
"Lydia!"
Kylie called out before the car even stopped.
Lydia's lips curved in a small smile. She lifted her hand and waved. "Dad. Mom."
Byron, waiting beside her, almost lost his balance in shock.
Wait... Did he hear that right? She just called the richest couple in the country Dad and Mom?
Everyone knew they only had one daughter, Lucinda. So Lydia was...

"Lydia, sweetheart, why didn't you call us right away when something like this happened?" Kylie hurried out of the car, worry written all over her face as she went straight to Lydia
