chapter175
The second Lucinda saw Connor step out of Lydia's car, her chest tightened so much it felt like she couldn't breathe.
Why?
Why was Connor with Lydia, especially this late at night?
What did that country girl have that made Connor pay so much attention to her?
Was it her looks?
Lucinda knew she wasn't any less attractive herself.
So why, from the very first moment, had Connor been drawn to Lydia?
God, it was unbearable.
And now Connor was actually kissing Lydia's hand.
He looked so sincere, so completely smitten.
Lucinda felt like she was about to lose it.
She yanked the curtains closed, her perfectly cared-for face twisting in anger.
Lydia!
There was no way she'd just sit back and watch this happen.
Connor was only infatuated for now. Once the excitement wore off, he'd realize who
he really loved. The one worth loving, the one who truly belonged at his side, was her. Lucinda!
Meanwhile, Lydia went back to her room, took a hot shower, dried her hair, and fell straight into bed, asleep almost immediately.
As she drifted off, her phone lit up with a message from Connor.
[Lydia, I'm home. Good night.]
Connor waited a couple of minutes for a reply. When none came, he figured she must have been exhausted and already asleep.
He stared at her profile picture on his screen, the corners of his mouth lifting in a small smile.
Good night, my girl, he thought to himself.
Cameron and Kylie had been so worn out lately that they didn't wake up until after eight in the morning.
Kylie rushed through her morning routine, scrambling to get ready.
They had planned to tell Lydia about the goddaughter situation over breakfast, then bring food to the old man at the hospital. Now, they had overslept and were way behind.
When they finally left their bedroom, only the cleaning staff were around.
The butler saw them and came over right away. "Good morning, sir, madam. Breakfast is ready."
Kylie shook her head. "We'll skip breakfast for now. Please just pack something for us to take to the hospital."
The butler smiled. "Miss Lucinda has already taken breakfast over to the hospital."
Cameron and Kylie both looked surprised. She has?"
The butler nodded. "Yes, sir, madam. Miss Lucinda said you've both been working hard lately and should rest a little longer she insisted on bringing breakfast to Mr. Norwood herself."
Kylie felt a wave of gratitude. "Lucinda really has grown up. She's starting to help us with so much."
Cameron chuckled. "She's so thoughtful. Always knows what to do."
"What about Lydia? Is she awake yet?" Kylie asked. Lydia had come home so late last night. She must be exhausted.
The butler answered respectfully, "Miss Lydia came down for breakfast at seven, then left for the company right after."
Kylie was stunned. "Really?" She hadn't expected Lydia to get up so early for work, not after such a late night.
She must be completely worn out.
Cameron gently patted Kylie's shoulder. Lucinda and Lydia are both wonderful girls. Lydia has a lot going on at the company today. Let's just have some breakfast.
"Okay."
As soon as Lydia arrived at the office, she asked Josef to put out an announcement across the company.
The message taid everything out.
Parker, along with department heads Peter, Colt, and a few others, had been caught embezzling huge sums of money. The evidence was solid, and they were already in police custody.
They were fired on the spot, and the company would be holding them accountable
in court.
The news hit the office like a bomb going off.
No one could believe it. The girl everyone had underestimated at first, had managed to uncover the. company's biggest secrets and send the culprits to jail in just a matter of days.
