Chapter 258

chapter258

The officer behind the wheel didn't hesitate. He jerked the steering wheel and shot straight toward the airport.

Lydia watched the little red dot drift across her screen, a small smile curling at the corners of her mouth. "Two kilometers, she said quietly.

Leroy was just two kilometers ahead. To Lydia, this felt like a classic game of cat and mouse.

The police car tore down the road, scenery whipping by in a blur.

"One kilometer," Lydia updated.

Byron nodded. "Hit the sirens."

They were almost on Leroy now. With the sirens blaring, every driver ahead would know something serious was happening. It would clear the road and help keep everyone safe.

Up ahead, Leroy had his foot slammed to the floor. When the sirens screamed behind him, he let out a sharp curse. "Damn it!"

He still couldn't figure out how they'd found him so fast.

Panic rising, he glanced at the dashboard clock. 3:10 PM. It's boarding time.

If he could just make it through security and onto the plane, he might actually pull this off.

Behind him, the police cars were weaving through traffic, lights flashing and sirens howling. The other drivers got out of the way, making it easy for the chase to keep up.

Leroy didn't bother searching for a parking spot when he reached the airport. He just stopped at the curb, threw on a hat and mask, grabbed his black suitcase, and bolted from the car.

The police convoy pulled up right after. Officers in tactical gear jumped out, moving fast in the direction Lydia pointed them.

"Call airport security. We need their help searching," Lydia instructed.

Byron took out his phone to coordinate with both his superiors and airport staff.

Leroy lost himself in the crowd, moving as quickly as he could toward security. Just as he was

almost there, an announc

f

buzzed across the airport speakers The voice was calm and

professional, but the message was chilling.

"This is an emergency

announcement. Airport security has been alerted to a suspect inside the airport. Please stay alert, watch your personal safety and cooperate with security and police during the search."

Leroy clenched his jaw, cursing his bad luck. They were starting the search before

he even got through security? There went any chance of a clean escape.

His plan was trashed. He'd have to disappear, lay low, and wait for another shot.

Passing by a garbage can, he tossed his phone in without breaking stride. He should have done that ages ago.

He took a long loop around from the entrance to the exit, blending in with the people leaving. He planned to grab a taxi and just vanish.

He was almost free. The exit was right there. Then, out of nowhere, a clear female voice cut through the noise. "There! Black hat, black mask, black suitcase!"

Lydia had noticed Leroy's phone location stop moving near the security checkpoint, so she and Byron decided to stake out the exit, just in case. Sure enough, a shifty figure caught her eye in the crowd.

Suddenly, Leroy clutched his suitcase and made a break for it.

The place was packed. He plowed through the crowd, not caring who got in his way. People started screaming. The whole scene turned chaotic.

other officers gave

Byron and the o

chase. Lydia scanned her

surroundings and spotted a guy who

looked smart and handsome,

holding a half-empty water bottle.

She rushed over and asked, "Hey can borrow your water for a second?"

Garrett was distracted by the chase, but when he looked up and saw the pretty, delicate-faced girl in front of him, he handed her the bottle right away, still wondering what she needed it for.
