chapter266

Connor nodded. "Alright."

Louise sat alone in the interrogation room, completely lost. She still couldn't wrap her head around how she had ended up at the police station. Her uncle, her mom..... they'd all been arrested. Why? How did everything go so wrong?

When Lydia walked in and closed the door behind her, Louise's eyes shot wide open. She shrank back in her chair, fear crawling up her spine.

"Who... who are you?" she stammered.

Even if she'd been na?ve before, Louise could tell now that Lydia wasn't just anybody. She was not someone you could mess with and walk away unscathed. But she had already crossed that line.

"You don't need to know who I am. All you need to remember is that you were the one who cornered me with your people, then pretended to be the victim. You faked being sick in the hospital, tried to squeeze ten million out of me, and had your uncle bend the law to drag me into the police station."

Lydia's voice was cold, her whole presence sending chills through the air. Louise felt like she couldn't breathe.

"I... I'm sorry, okay? I won't press charges anymore. Just let me go. Please, let my mom and my uncle go too," Louise begged, her eyes red and her voice trembling.

She could sense it her uncle couldn't protect the Stein family anymore. Their safety net was gone. And it was all because of the girl standing in front of her. Lydia was terrifying. She had gotten her uncle arrested, Leroy too. She'd only just found out that the Parker family had been taken in days earlier.

Lydia watched Louise, who was crying like a child. Her voice stayed icy. "So now you realize you messed up?"

Louise nodded hard. "Yes, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have come after you."

Lydia let out a short, cold laugh. "You're not sorry, you're just scared. What if the person you dragged in today wasn't me, but someone else who couldn't fight back? What do you think would've happened then?"

Louise clamped her lips shut, too terrified to speak. The truth was, they'd done this sort of thing plenty of times before. She just never expected to run into someone she couldn't push around.

Lydia's glare sharpened. "If I hadn't been the one you targeted, that fake confession. you forced would havez stuck. Now you're scared, just because you're finally the one behind bars? When you wereusing, your power to hurt people did it ever cross your mind what would happen if you got caught? Did you really think the police station belonged to your family? That you could decide who was guilty and who wasn't?"

Lydia's words hit right where it hurt. In Louise's mind, the Fifth Division might as well have been her uncle's property. No matter what she did, once she was through

those doors, the other person was always in the wrong.

"I said I know I made a mistake, isn't

that enough didn't actually hurt you, so why can't you just let us go? You keep saying we abuse our

power but what about you? Yool.ne

used your connections with the First Division to arrest my uncle. How is that any different?"

Louise just couldn't accept it. In her eyes, Lydia only won because she had more powerful friends. That was the only reason her family was behind bars.

Lydia narrowed h her eyes, almost looking at Louise with pity. "You got arrested because you broke the law, not because of anyone's

connections, Do you think the law is just a decoration? Everyone is equal here, it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, powerful or not. You might have gotten away with bullying people before, but don't forget, the law always catches up. One day, you'll pay for everything you've done."
