chapter427
Thinking about Jonas always made Lydia smile. He was honestly kind of interesting.
"He really did his job. There were a few times I tried to lose him, but he kept up every time. And when we were up on that mountain, he worked with me the whole way. Never held me back, not once."
The mountain had been dangerous, seriously scary. Jonas had the skills to get out on his own if he wanted to, but he didn't. He stuck with her until the very end.
That kind of loyalty to Blake was rare.
She looked a little embarrassed. "I guess it's a bit much, huh?"
Blake never expected his little sister to have so many wild identities. She was a brilliant doctor, the only person in the country to ever get a perfect score on the final exam, and the fashion world's chameleon, Miss L. And now, out of nowhere, she turned out to be the legendary hacker L too.
How did she do all that, and all at once? The fact she was both Miss L and hacker L? He could barely wrap his head around it.
No wonder Connor, the guy known for being cold as ice, clung to his sister like he never wanted to let go.
"Blake, stop selling yourself short. Our family are amazing.
Blake just laughed, but then he got serious. "So, do you like Connor?"
Lydia thought about everything that had happened since she came back to the Capital. She gave a small smile. "Yeah, a little.
If he'd asked her before today, maybe she would have said she wasn't sure. But now, she really did, even if it was just a little bit.
Blake nodded. "Good. Honestly, in this whole city, he's the only one who's a match for you."
His sister was a genius in every way. No ordinary guy would ever be enough.
"Oh, right, Lydia. We never got to do this earlier. Let's swap numbers."
"Sure."
They added each other on their phones, and Blake said, "Today was pretty packed.
I'll bring you a proper welcome gift tomorrow."
"You really don't need to. I'm not missing anything."
"Doesn't matter if you need it or not. It's what I should do. Get some sleep."
"Alright."
As Blake got up to leave, he stepped out of the room and nearly ran into someone staring right at him. He glanced up and saw Jenny, who'd just won the competition that day.
She was holding a black plastic bag, probably with some last-minute essentials for a friend.
"Ms. Norwood... so you're back?" Jenny's eyes were huge. It was late, and here was Mr. Norwood walking out of Lydia's room. Did that mean... were they... together?
Oh wow.
Jenny's face lit up. If that was true, they'd be perfect for each other. Seriously, a match made in heaven.
Blake nodded. Yeah, she's back. Everything's fine."
Jenny finally relaxed. After the awards, Ms. Norwood had disappeared and nobody could get in touch with her so everyone just waited at the hotel, worried. Thank goodness nothing had happened.
"That's great. Ms. Norwood, thank you for cheering me on today. And... I hope you and Mr. Norwood have a long, happy life together. I'm heading back to my room."
Blake was left completely confused. What was that supposed to mean?
Before he could ask, Jenny had already slipped into the room next door and closed the door behind her.
Blake stood in the hallway, thinking, was this misunderstanding getting a little out of control?
About an hour later, Connor showed up outside Lydia's door, looking kind of guilty. He knocked quietly.
"Lydia, it's me," he said in a low voice.
He was nervous. If Blake caught him
sneaking into Lydia's room, he'd never hear the end of it. But tonight,
if he couldn't hold Lydia while he
slept, he knew he wouldn't get a kor sleep. Hed probably go
crazy.
