chapter526
After hanging up, Lydia looked over at her grandmother. Milana's started pawning her jewelry."
Her grandmother snorted. "She pocketed so much money back when the family business was on top. It's about time she gave it all back."
That was exactly what Lydia wanted. The idea of making Milana cough up everything she'd swallowed over the years, one piece at a time, was honestly kind of hilarious.
At the pawnshop, Milana, Jenson, and Sandy insisted on a hundred million. They wouldn't take a cent less.
The person helping them was a good-looking guy with a name tag that said Maverick. After hearing Milana's price, he told them he'd call his boss. When he came back, he said, "My boss has checked the items. Fifty million. Take it or leave it."
Milana thought he was talking about the set she'd bought for over fifty million. She paused, acting a little reluctant. "Fifty million? Are you sure your boss really looked at these? These are top quality, all bought through legit channels. This set alone cost me sixty million. You're offering just fifty..."
Jenson, worried Milana might push too far, cleared his throat. Honey, since they've given us an offer, let's go with fifty million for this set."
Fifty million was still a lot for Jenson right now.
Sandy jumped in, trying to sound supportive. "Yeah, Mom. A little loss is fine. Let's just take the fifty million."
Fifty million. Sandy had never seen that much money in her life. She instantly regretted not asking Milana for a couple more jewelry sets before her surgery.
Milana put on a pained look, as if this was some huge sacrifice, and nodded, gritting her teeth. Alright, fine. Fifty million it is. But this other set can't go for less than forty million."
She pointed at the set she'd bought for over thirty million, looking totally unfazed.
Maverick gave them a polite smile. "I think there's been a misunderstanding. My boss is offering fifty million for both sets together."
"What?" All three of them blurted out at once.
Milana stared at Maverick, totally floored, like she might explode any second. "Are you kidding me? These two sets together are worth over a hundred million. Even if you want to bargain, this is ridiculous. I came here to pawn them, not to give them away for free."
Maverick just kept smiling. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm only passing on my boss' offer."
Jenson lost it. "No way. We are not accepting fifty million for both. Call your boss again and tell him to raise the price.
Maverick nodded and left to make the call. He came back quickly.
"Well? How much now?" Milana asked, looking hopeful.
Maverick said, "My boss has changed their mind. Now they will only pay forty million for both."
"Forty million for everything?" Milana glared at him.
Maverick nodded. "Yes."
"That's it. We're leaving. We'll find another pawnshop. Milana grabbed her things and walked out without a backward glance.
Jenson's face was dark with anger. He muttered, "I thought this was a legit place, but you're just thieves. I'm not gonna come back!"
Sandy saw them go and quickly followed. Forty million really was too low.
The three of them spent the rest of the day going from pawnshop to pawnshop all over the city. Either the shops refused to take the jewelry.or the prices got even lower. When they tried smaller places none of them had enough cash to buy anything worth millions.
Just when Jenson and Milana were about to lose it, Harry called again.
"Mr. Smith, you have to come back now. They're trashing the lobby and I can't stop them."
Jenson felt his vision go black with rage. He kissed into the phone, "Tell them to wait two more hours I'll pay
back every cent. If they don't cal down, I'll sue them for causing trouble."
