chapter550
Jenson looked like he was about to fall apart, his hands tangled in his hair. I really don't know, okay? I swear I didn't do anything to upset Miss L!"
He and Milana were both inches from breaking down. A swarm of creditors was after them, and Miss L wasn't even willing to see them. What on earth were they supposed to do?
Before they could catch their breath, Jenson's phone started buzzing again. Harry was calling, sounding panicked. He said another group of creditors had shown up at the office, this time dragging reporters along. Apparently, the last group had told them that the media made a difference, so now everyone was piling on.
Jenson couldn't hold back his anger. "Are they trying to kill me?"
How was he supposed to find that much cash? There was just no way.
Harry was losing it too. "Mr. Smith, security couldn't stop them. They just barged right in. They said if you don't show up, they'll start wrecking the place."
Jenson clenched his teeth. "Tell them to wait."
He ended the call and looked at Milana.
She shrank back under his stare. "Why are you looking at me like that?
Jenson's voice was almost pleading. "Honey, maybe you could pawn a few more pieces of your jewelry?"
That was the last straw for Milana. "Jenson, those are literally the only valuable things we have left. If I pawn them, we'll have nothing."
Jenson let out a heavy sigh. "Alright, then we'll have to sell the house in the Capital. We'll get more money that way."
Milana couldn't believe what she was hearing. "That house is for Luke. What about his future if we sell it?"
"So you won't let me pawn the jewelry, and you don't want to sell the house. What should we do then?"
In the next three days, Jenson ended up pawning nearly all of Milana's jewelry. To try to fill the gaping hole in the company's finances, he also sold off their investments, the house, and the shops in Lakeview Town. Everything went for cheap. He needed fast cash, and nobody was willing to pay a good price.
Milana spent every day in tears. The only thing keeping her from falling apart completely was knowing that Luke's hospital bills were covered by the twenty million Mrs. Smith had set aside.
"Honey."
Milana's heart skipped. She pointed straight at Jenson. "Don't call me that. I have nothing left to pawn. If
we really can't make it, let's just bankruptcy. out

options.
Her eyes were red and swollen from days of crying.
Jenson's voice was low. "I know."
"If you know, then why are you still coming to me?"
"I was thinking... maybe Sandy could save the company."
Milana let out a bitter laugh. "Sandy? She probably wants to run off with whatever's left of the Smith family's fortune. You really think she's going to save us?
Jenson was stubborn. Isn't she engaged to the Lane family? If she marries Soren, the Lane family will have to give us a huge money for that."
Milana scoffed. You know ever since Sandy went to the hospital Soren's been missing in action. The Lane family won't ever pick up our calls. Doesn't that tell you something?"
The engagement was arranged by the two families' grandmothers, and with Mrs.
Lane gone, the Lanes could easily just back out.
Still, let Sandy talk to Soren. Even if they want to break it off, they owe us compensation."
Jenson was desperate for any way to get money.
Milana felt helpless, but she had to admit, the Lane family did owe them an explanation.
"Fine, I'll talk to Sandy."
Recently, Sandy had barely left her room. She buried herself in medical books and secretly followed Lydia's ontine account. She never expected to actually learn so much from 'Chief Lydia.'
She was struck by how incredible medicine really was.
