chapter588
Byron froze when he saw Lydia. Wait, these two were the genius's adoptive parents?
"Miss Norwood, this is..." he started, but Lydia didn't even acknowledge him. She was all business, like they were total strangers. "Officer, I was actually about to file a report myself."
Jenson and Milana both looked completely shocked, as if Lydia was speaking
another language. They just stared at her, confused. "You want to file a report? For what?" Byron asked. Honestly, the atmosphere around Lydia was so tense it made him feel like he could barely breathe.
"I suspect someone intentionally pushed my grandmother down the stairs. She almost died," Lydia said, her voice cool and steady.
Jenson immediately lost it. Lydia, stop making wild accusations! Your grandmother is old. It started raining, the lights went out, she couldn't see the steps. Her legs aren't strong anymore. That's why she fell. It was an accident, not some murder attempt!"
"We'll find out if it was on purpose or not. That's what an investigation is for, right?" Lydia replied, her gaze icy.
Milana let out a cold laugh. "The only one with her was Sandy. Are you seriously saying my daughter pushed your grandmother? She's just a girl."
Lydia looked right at Milana. Don't you already know the answer to that?"
Milana's face paled and she started shouting, like she'd just been deeply wronged. "Lydia, dhow could you say that! Your grandmother's fall had nothing to do with us. It was an accident!"
Byron stepped in, trying to keep things calm. "Okay, let's just file the report and let the police handle the investigation."
Lydia nodded. "That's fine with me."
Milana seemed to hesitate for a second, then started shouting again. "We'll
cooperate, but officer, you need to make her bring my daughter here first! My daughter called us after it happened, but we haven't seen her in three days. Lydia must have done something to her!"
Byron glanced at Lydia.
Lydia answered without hesitation
"What could I have possibly done to her? She said herself she was going
to wait until Grandma woke up to prove she was innocent
Milana nearly jumped out of her seat. "So it was you, Lydia! You have to bring my daughter here right now, or you're breaking the law!"
Byron cleared his throat and looked at Lydia again. Honestly, he figured Lydia knew the law better than any of them. He couldn't see herdoing something flega
"Miss Norwood, where is she?" he asked.
She's fine. She's just hiding because she feels guilty for not protecting Grandma. I'll
talk to her later and convince her to come home."
Byron nodded. "Alright."
"She's an important witness. She was the only one with your grandmother when it happened."
"Don't worry. We'll get to the bottom of this," Byron promised.
But Milana wasn't done. "Lydia, if you hurt my daughter, I won't let you get away with it!"
Byron said, "Since we've got everything clear, we'll wait for Miss Smith to come to the station and give her statement."
As Byron was
about to leave with his
team, Milana shot Jenson a looke
Jensen finally spoke up officer the
patient in that room is my mother. They're not letting us visit her. Isn't that against the rules?"
Byron frowned. "But they said you'd been abusive, and when she was in danger, you weren't here."
"That's not true! Officer, that's not what happened at all. Lydia's just trying to take my mother's assets!"
