Chapter 639

chapter639

She'd been out of it earlier, but she was sure she'd heard Elliot's voice talking about how that young lady had done surgery for Mr. Norwood.

Nathaniel leaned in, like he was sharing a secret. "She came with Elliot, but there's nothing going on between them."

"So she..."

"She's Connor's girlfriend. You really can't tell anyone, okay?" Nathaniel lowered his voice.

Mabel had just started to feel better when that bit of news hit her like a shock. "What?"

Nathaniel rushed to explain, worried his mom would get worked up again. "Mom, Elliot knows too. The Norwood family seems to be fine with it. We should just keep it to ourselves."

But Mabel still couldn't wrap her head around it. Sure, Connor was a big deal, but Lydia seemed amazing too. She was gorgeous, young, and already an incredible doctor. With a future that bright, she could date anyone she wanted. Why would she choose to be Connor's mistress?

Take her own son, for example. Was he any less impressive than Connor?

"No, if I see her, I have to talk to her. She needs some advice. Connor's great, but he's not the right man for her to spend her life with."

Nathaniel groaned. "Mom, just let it go. The Norwood family is already on board, so what does it have to do with us? Why risk getting on Connor's bad side?"

Mabel scoffed. You brat. She just saved your mother's life. How can I stand by and watch her walk into trouble?"

Nathaniel slapped his forehead, realizing he never should have said anything. He'd seen how much Connor adored Lydia. If his mom actually managed to break them up, Connor would probably lose it.

That night, Lydia, Elliot, and Connor went out to eat at a private little restaurant, with Connor picking up the tab.

Elliot messaged Kylie to say he wouldn't be home for dinner. When Kylie saw it, she huffed. I was hoping he'd bring Lydia and Connor home for dinner, but I guess they're not coming."

Cameron just laughed. Let them enjoy themselves. Lydia finally got a day off. They should have some fun before heading back."

Lucinda clenched her hands, feeling

a stab of jealousy. Elliot took Lydia out to dinner and a movie, but didn't.

lither? Was he really treating her

like an outsider now?

"I'm going to call and see what fancy food they're having," Kylie said, dialing Elliot's number.

Elliot picked up right away. Kylie said, You better be the one paying tonight. Don't let Connor spend any more money."

Elliot rubbed his nose. "He already paid."

He thought to himself, So she's saving money for her future son-in-law, but her own son's money doesn't count?

Kylie rolled her eyes. Fine, fine. Just be quicker next time."

Alrighty, Elliot replied. He paused, then added, "Oh, and we ran into Nathaniel and Aunt Mabel at the theater today."

Kylie's face fell at the mention of Nathaniel and Mabel.

Cameron overheard and said, "Did you really have to tell your mom just to upset her?"

The Robinson family didn't

acknowledge Kylie as their daughter anymore. Every time she thought about it, she felt even more guilty and heartbroken.

Elliot hesitated. "It's not that. Aunt Mabel had an asthma attack today and Lydia happened to be there. She saved her."

Kylie was stunned. "What? Is she okay?"

The truth was, Mabel had always been nice to Kylie. It was just that things were so tense between the families now, they only exchanged greetings on special occasions.

Elliot sounded proud. "Don't worry. With Lydia there, she's definitely fine."

"So... does your aunt know who Lydia really is?"
