chapter655
Were they really willing to put up with anything, just because of Connor?
Kylie and Cameron looked at each other, completely at a loss. What was that supposed to mean?
"Mabel, what are you saying..."
"Sorry we're late, Aunt Mabel."
Elliot's voice drifted in from the doorway, and right beside him stood Lydia, looking effortlessly cool and confident.
Mabel and Nathaniel were both stunned. Was this really happening? Was the Norwood family actually this open-minded?
"Elliot, Lydia, how did you two end up together?" Mabel's thoughts were all over the place. When Elliot and Connor took Lydia out to a movie, the rest of the Norwoods weren't around. But now, Kylie and Cameron was both here. This was something else.
Elliot just smiled, relaxed as always. "We bumped into each other outside. Aunt Mabel, are you feeling better these days?"
Mabel nodded. Much better, thanks to Lydia. Lydia, what's been keeping you so busy? Nate's been trying to set up a dinner with you, but you're always tied up with something. It's such a coincidence you're here."
Lydia gave a gentle smile. "Work's been crazy lately. I'll treat you to dinner another time, Aunt Mabel."
Just hearing Lydia call her "Aunt Mabel" caught Mabel totally off guard. She almost jumped out of her seat.
"Uh... Well... Is that really okay?" For a woman who ruled the business world, Mabel suddenly had no idea what to say.
Kylie laughed. "Mabel, it's totally fine. Lydia just got back not long ago. It's normal for her to want to treat her elders."
Now Mabel was even more confused.
Nathaniel looked completely lost, too. He turned to Kylie. "Wait, Aunt Kylie, did you say Lydia just got back?"
Kylie nodded. "Yeah."
She glanced at Mabel and Nathaniel and sighed. There's something we've never told you. Eighteen years ago, when I gave birth at the hospital, there was a mix-up. Lydia and Lucinda got switched. Lydia is Cameron
actually my andwich
biological daughter. We just brought her home this summer."
For a moment, it was like the air had been punched out of the room.
Even Mabel, who never let anything rattle her, was actually stunned this time.
Nathaniel's jaw dropped. His eyes went wide, almost cartoonishly round.
"This... This is like something out of a TV drama," he blurted out.
Thank goodness he and his mom hadn't said anything too outrageous earlier. That would've been beyond embarrassing.
Kylie managed a helpless smile.
"Yeah, it's pretty dramatic. But we're
just so happy to have Lydia back
And with tuefnda, we'll always treat
her as our own daughter, no matter what."
Mabel finally snapped out of her daze. She rushed over to Lydia,
grabbed bath her hands, and held on tight. "Lydia, this is unbelievable. It's fate, isn't it? I can't believe we actually family. I'm so happy You saved my life. How could I ever thank you?
Lydia let out a soft laugh. We're family. You don't have to thank me for anything." Nathaniel just sat there, mouth half open, replaying a million moments in his head. "Seriously? That idiot Chris totally played me."
Connor and Chris had known who he was all along, and still... And Lydia, his own cousin, had teamed up with themto mess with him.
Everyone stared at Nathaniel, who had suddenly started cursing Chris out of nowhere. No one could figure out what was going on.
Lydia just smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement.
Mabel shot Nathaniel a look. "What's wrong with you, kid?"
