chapter746
Cameron already knew the Jeffersons and the Robinsons never hung out together. The fact that they ran into each other today was pure chance.
"Connor, come sit down. What a coincidence. Let me introduce you, this is"
Before Cameron could finish, William stood up from the sofa. "Since you have guests, we'll be heading out."
Connor smiled, looking relaxed and polite. "I just got here, Uncle William. You're leaving already?"
The way Connor called him Uncle William was so smooth and natural, like he'd practiced it in front of a mirror a hundred times.
Everyone in the room was stunned.
William's jaw clenched, clearly annoyed. The Jeffersons really were like a den of foxes, always so sly and calculating. That Mikey was the same way.
"Connor, you must be confused. I don't think you are my nephew."
"You're right, Uncle William. I'm not your nephew. I'm your future nephew-in-law."
William's eyes widened and he let out a cold snort. "I only have one niece, and she's still single. Don't start making up family ties, Connor."
Connor's smile didn't falter. "If you don't want to acknowledge me as your nephew- in-law just yet, that's fine. Sooner or later, we'll be family."
William's face darkened.
Mabel and Nathaniel, sitting nearby, nearly burst out laughing.
Finally, someone had managed to get under William's skin. It was almost funny.
But William wasn't the type to let things slide. He quickly pulled himself together and turned to Lydia, his expression softening. Lydia, you're still young. There are plenty of great men out there. I'll introduce you to someone even better someday."
Connor's smile froze for a second. Of course William knew exactly how to push his buttons.
William gave a satisfied little huff, turned around, and left the room without so much as a backward glance.
Lucinda was still stuck on what William had said earlier-only one niece? She felt like she was about to explode. So that's how it was. She was being left out completely.
But everyone else was too caught up in the drama between William and Connor to notice her at all.
William was already striding out the door, and Mabel and Nathaniel quickly got up to follow him.
"Cameron, Kylie, we'll head back for today."
Kylie knew her brother's temper, so she just went along and saw them out.
"William, it's Saturday. We're all free. Why don't you stay for lunch?"
William's face was cold as he glanced at Connor, who was standing next to Lydia to see them off. "No, thanks."
He just didn't have the appetite.
Mabel quickly stepped in to smooth things over Kylie, we came over in a rush today, and your brother still has a ton of work to deal with Aren't you going to visit Mom and Dad tomorrow? We'll have a proper get-together at home instead, okay? C ntent
Kylie understood that William was upset about the Norwoods and Jeffersons joining forces. But that Was already settled. There was now changing it now. William would just have to get used to the idea.
"Alright, Mabel. See you tomorrow."
"Yeah, see you tomorrow."
Once William's car had disappeared down the street, Kylie finally let out a long sigh and looked at Lydia standing next to her "Lydia feally have to thank you for this. If it weren't for you, your uncle might never come to see me again.
"Don't say that. It's obvious he cares about you."
The truth was, Lydia saving Mabel had given William and Kylie the perfect excuse to make up.
Cameron put his hand gently on Kylie's shoulder. "Lydia's right, honey. We'll go visit your parents tomorrow. Let's take our time picking out some really nice gifts today."
