chapter750
No one dared to make a sound. Everyone was terrified they'd be next.
Lucinda just let out a cold laugh and headed upstairs without looking back.
Grace, meanwhile, looked like she was about to burst with pride. She shot Tina a smug, mocking stare, practically gloating at the sight of Tina's hands trembling with pain and her forehead beaded with sweat.
"Tina, really? Look at them. Were any of them actually on your side? Did a single person even try to defend you?"
Tina clenched her jaw. They're just trying to survive, Grace. I don't blame them for that."
Grace rolled her eyes and grinned. Yeah, keep telling yourself that.
Then she glanced at the mess. "You broke the glass, made a mess of the floor. You clean it up."
Tina's fingers shook even harder. The blisters on her hands throbbed. Everyone could tell Grace was just being cruel.
But Lucinda had given the order. Tina was just a housemaid here, so she didn't have a choice. She knelt down, wincing as she started picking up the shards of glass with her blistered hands.
Grace folded her arms and scoffed. Hurry up. Mr. Norwood will be home any minute. If he slips and hurts himself because of this water, do you really think you can take the blame?"
Judy and Alexis, who always trailed after Tina, finally couldn't take it anymore. They rushed over and started helping her clean up.
Grace's face went red with fury. "Judy, Alexis, what are you doing? You two want to get kicked out of the Norwood house?"
Usually, Judy and Alexis were timid and kept their heads down, terrified of Lucinda and Grace. But today, they just couldn't stand by and watch Tina, the lady who'd always treated them like family, get treated like trash.
Lucinda and Grace were just going too far. With Lydia, Mr. Norwood and Mrs. Norwood out of the house, they were making life hell for everyone else.
Judy, always the quick thinker, spoke up. "Grace, we're just worried Mr. Norwood might slip and get hurt. If anything happens, Mr. and Mrs. Norwood will blame all of us."
Grace glared at them, grinding her teeth. "Fine. You two want to challenge me now?"
Tina looked up at Judy and Alexis, her voice gentle but firm. "You two, please, get up. I'll finish this myself."
Judy shook her head. "Tina, it'll go faster with all of us. Mr. Norwood really is almost back from the garden."
Anyway, Lucinda
and Grace were
desperate to keep what happened today a secret. Grace definitely wouldn't dare do anything to Judy and Alexis now. If things blew up, everyone would find out what Lucinda did.
Grace shot them all a venomous look. "Just wait. This isn't over."
She stomped upstairs, still muttering curses under her breath.
Back in her room, Lucinda was still fuming when her phone wouldn't stop ringing. She glanced at the screen, her face turning even darker, and finally just tossed the phone across the room.
But the calls kept coming. Whoever it was, they weren't giving up. Lucinda felt like she was about to
lose her mind. She finally snatomet
up the phone and answered, her voice sharp and impatient. "What do you want now?" s?novels
A man's cheerful voice came through. Hey, sweetheart, I'm out of cash. Can you transfer me some more money?"
It was Frank. A week ago, he'd taken a million from her, gambled it all away, and
somehow managed to rack up another three hundred grand in debt.
He'd tried to find her at Capital
College, but she hadn't been there.
Someone told him she was off at training, so he'd found her number in his transfer records and started calling nonstop.
This was already the second time he'd tried to squeeze money out of her. Lucinda hadn't given him a cent.
She was already in a foul mood, and now he was asking for more money. She wanted to throw her phone at the wall.
"I told you already. That was all I had, one million. I gave it to you so you could go back to West City. How did you blow through it that fast?"
