chapter842
Connor's words sent another ripple of shock through the crowd.
Triple the price? Seriously? Had everyone here lost their minds over money?
For normal people, even a few million was something they could only dream about. And yet, these guys were throwing around "double" and "triple" like it was pocket change.
Lucinda was stunned. She never thought Connor would go this far for Lydia. This felt like an outright insult to both Caspian and herself.
Lydia could only roll her eyes. Did Connor think this was some kind of auction?
Caspian was just as blindsided. Was Connor really raising the stakes again? Did having money mean he could just do whatever he wanted?
But at this point, Caspian was stuck. If he backed down now, Lucinda would never respect him, and Connor and Melody Mastro would just laugh at him. The money? He'd figure something out.
"I'll offer four times the price," Caspian said, jaw clenched.
Lydia raised her eyebrows. Apparently, Caspian was more into Lucinda than she realized.
Lucinda was surprised too, but after a moment she thought, If Caspian can't even come up with a few tens of millions, how could he ever be good enough for the daughter of the richest man around? Any man she chose needed to have the guts to spend big.
Connor looked like he was about to protest, but Lydia cut him off. Fine, it's all yours. We're out."
Connor shot her an annoyed look. "What do you mean? I was trying to get you a gift. Why should I just let someone else take it?"
Lydia gave him a look. "Are you trying to spend all your money in one day? I've already got more gifts than I know what to do with. My room's full. If this guy wants to give a present so badly, let's just let him have it."
It was true. Lydia's room was already overflowing with gifts, most of them untouched.
She turned to Caspian, her tone pointed. "I just hope your card has enough in it." Caspian's hands tightened. He stared at Lydia. "You don't need to worry about that." "Oh, I think we do. If you can't actually pay four times the price, why should I hand over the jewelry?" Connor shot back, his voice sharp.
Caspian didn't say another word. He handed his card to the manager. "Try this one first. Someone will bring another card soon."
He had brought every bit of his savings with him today, all twenty million. For the rest, he'd have to ask his sister.
"Give me a second. I need to make a call."
Caspian stepped aside, dialing his sister, Breanna.
When she heard he needed to borrow thirty million, Breanna just froze, thinking he had to be joking.
Caspian, what kind of investment are you getting into that you need that much?"
was
Thirty million wasn't exactly pocket change, Breanna couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with him today, so she had to know where all that money was going.
Caspian didn't want to explain. He just pressed, Sis, please, just lend me the money. I'll put up my company shares as collateral."
He didn't have that much cash on hand, so using his company stock was the only
way.
Breanna honestly thought he'd lost
it, but she couldn't bring herself to say no Alright but my card has limits and have to show my face for big transactions. Where are you? I'll come to you."
Caspian hesitated. The last thing he wanted was for Breanna or anyone else in the
family to know what was happening. But right now, he had no choice.
"I'll send you my location."
"Okay."
Once the money was settled,
Caspian finally felt the weight et
from his chest. He let out
leng,
shaky breath, feeling like he could breathe again.
