Chapter 101

chapter101

Thalassa halted, her back stiffening as the voice echoed in the sterile executive corridor. She didn't turn around immediately, gathering her composure.

“What is your purpose in the President's office?” Faye demanded, her tone laced with suspicion.

“I am here to resolve a misunderstanding with Mr. Sinclair,” Thalassa replied, turning to meet Faye’s gaze with calm determination. “Since he is currently unavailable, I will return at a more appropriate time.”

Faye stepped forward, a cold sneer playing on her lips. “You are a member of the maintenance staff, Thalassa. Do you truly believe your personal grievances warrant the President's direct attention? To many, your persistence looks less like a quest for justice and more like a calculated attempt to gain proximity to him.”

Thalassa stood her ground, her eyes clear and unyielding. “I am here to request a review of the security footage—specifically, the recording of your recent conversation with Mr. Sinclair. I intend to provide definitive proof that I was not eavesdropping and that I am not the source of the recent rumors. It’s often said that we project our own insecurities onto others, Faye. Perhaps you should reflect on that.”

The retort struck a nerve. Faye’s expression tightened, her composure wavering. “The office doors are often open for transparency. It would have been easy for someone with an agenda to listen in.”

“The truth will be evident once the records are audited,” Thalassa countered.

“Mr. Sinclair is overseeing a multi-million dollar quarterly expansion. He won't waste a second on such trivial matters,” Faye dismissed her, turning on her heel. “If I were you, I’d apologize for the disruption and move on. It might be the only way to save your position.”

“I will not apologize for a mistake I didn't commit,” Thalassa said to Faye’s retreating back. “Integrity is the only thing I truly own, and I won't let it be tarnished by baseless accusations.”

Alone in the hallway, the weight of the situation momentarily dampened her spirits. But when her phone rang, the cheerful voice of her friend Hertha—and the sweet, encouraging words of her children, Dorian and Elowen—rekindled her resolve. Knowing they believed in her gave her the strength to finish her duties on the top floor with her usual meticulous care.

As she was preparing to leave the executive wing, a mysterious movement near the stairwell caught her eye. Driven by a gut feeling, she decided to follow.
