chapter1001
"She's incredible!"
The awe in the room was palpable as everyone stared at Calliope, as if they were gazing at something divine. Her skill wasn't just impressive it was almost supernatural. Even if they could comprehend her technique, none of them could hope to match her speed; she worked with a practiced ease, as though she could conduct a surgery flawlessly with her eyes closed. It was hard to believe someone so young possessed such world-class expertise.
Because Calliope moved so swiftly, the operation ended ahead of schedule, despite an unexpected complication along the way. When the surgical team finally stepped out of the operating room, Silas was already waiting just outside. He looked like he'd been there for hours, his body tense and his mind wound tight with worry.
Maybe someone wanted to lighten the mood-or perhaps just tease Silas a little because the lead surgeon at the front deliberately adopted a downcast expression as he exited.
"How did it go?" Silas asked, immediately picking up on the somber look. His heart lurched in his chest. "It wasn't a success?"
Of course he knew there was always a chance of failure, but he desperately didn't want that outcome not for the patient, and not for Calliope. He was painfully aware that, ever since Calliope had lost Hudson Howell and her own grandfather, she'd grown wary of practicing medicine, haunted by the fear of not being good enough, not being strong enough. The last thing he wanted was for this operation to deal her another blow.
The lead surgeon heaved a sigh and said grimly, "Yes, there was an unexpected complication. The patient suffered massive bleeding."
"We never anticipated her condition would take such a sudden turn," another doctor chimed in, matching the heavy tone.
Calliope played along as well, dropping her head with a quiet sigh.
Silas looked at her, his heart in his throat. "It... failed?" he asked.
"No one can predict an accident... I tried to prepare myself..." he managed, forcing steadiness into his voice.
He crossed over to Calliope, his tone gentle, his eyes filled with concern. "Callie, don't blame yourself. This wasn't your fault. I know you would never have wanted this to happen."
He looked at her with something like heartbreak. "If anyone's to blame, it's me. I never should've asked you to take on this procedure."
He reproached himself for letting her face such risk. It was cruel, after everything she'd already endured. She must be devastated to lose another patient.
But just as he moved to comfort her, the lead surgeon's face broke into a smile.
Mr. Myers, I said there was an incident never said the surgery wasn't a success!
"The Miracle Doctor here is extraordinary. She turned things around at the most critical moment and stopped the bleeding just in time."
Thanks to her, the patient is now in excellent condition.
"She's completely out of danger! As long as we keep an eye on her over the next twenty-four hours, she's set for a full recovery!"
The relief that crashed through Silas was palpable-he exhaled deeply, as if he'd only just remembered to breathe.
"Really?" he asked, then turned to Calliope. "Is that true? She's all right?"
Calliope nodded. "The operation
went very well. We did have one
small complication, but it was nothing we couldn't manage and it won't affect her recovery. 1 fully expect her to get back to full health."
"She'll need a little time to wake up," Calliope added, "but based on what we've seen, there's nothing to worry about anymore. You can go visit her in her room. She's already been moved."
Now that we're finished, she told Silas I think it's time for me to get some fest The team knows exactly whatto do next-they'll handle her
Car
from here."
