chapter1078
Dr. Tomlinson led the three of them toward the professors' office, still working out in his mind exactly how to talk to Lydia. He wanted to take her down a notch, remind her not to let pride get the better of her, but he also knew he had to be careful with his words. She was the principal's favorite student, after all. Some things just couldn't be said too harshly.
Marilyn and Yara walked beside him, soaking up all the attention from the other students. Their backs were straight, eyes bright with pride, almost daring everyone to look at them. It was as if their whole vibe was saying, We got picked and we're not shy about it. Only four spots in all of Capital Med School, and they had two of them. If that wasn't destiny, what was?
Collin didn't show off the way they did. He was quieter, but there was no hiding how good it felt to see classmates looking at him with envy and admiration.
The three of them followed Dr. Tomlinson, fully expecting to watch him give Lydia a good scolding. But even before they reached the door, they caught a glimpse through the glass. Inside, several professors were crowded around Lydia.
With Lydia's cool, distant energy, it almost looked like she was untouchable at the center of the group.
Dr. Tomlinson froze. "What... what is happening?" For a second, he was completely thrown.
Yara leaned over, a little smirk playing on her lips. "Dr. Tomlinson, do you think the other professors found out Lydia didn't join our training? Maybe they're giving her a lecture."
Marilyn nodded, convinced. "Exactly. The international medical competition is a huge deal, and she's just blowing it off. If she holds us back, she's embarrassing our whole country. The professors have to set her straight."
Collin watched for a moment, then spoke in a low voice. "But... it looks like they are asking Lydia questions."
It was obvious. The professors had their papers out, standing in a tight circle around Lydia. She was looking at one professor's notes, talking things through while everyone else listened, completely focused. The whole scene looked like students gathered around a teacher, hungry for answers.
Except this time, Lydia was the one being asked.
Collin just stared, stunned. His mind couldn't quite process what he was seeing.
Dr. Tomlinson's thoughts were spinning too. If the professors were really turning to Lydia for help... what was the point of training her? He felt a rush of excitement and, without thinking, stepped right into the office.
Marilyn and Yara, though, just couldn't accept it. In their minds, there was no way Lydia was on that level.
It was ridiculous. The professors were the pride of Capital Med School. How could they possibly be asking Lydia for advice? That was just impossible.
Marilyn said. "You're overthinking it. The professors are obviously disappointed in Lydia and are trying to get her to take things seriously."
Yara agreed. Right. Even if she's Mr. Moore's student, there's no way she'd be teaching our professors anything."
Collin couldn't quite wrap his head around it either. Still, it definitely looked like Lydia was the one in charge.
Suddenly, Dr. Tomlinson's voice rang out. "What's going on here?"
Mr. Russo looked up from where he was listening to Lydia and let out an annoyed sigh. "Tomlinson, we're asking Lydia some questions. Give us a minute, will you?"
Dr. Schneider didn't even look away. "Yeah, time is short. Let's go one at a time, everyone to crowding." He said it, but leaned in even closer to Lydia, totally caught up in what she was saying.
Dr. Tomlinson was floored.
Behind him, Marilyn and Yara felt like the world had flipped upside down. The shock was written all over their faces. It was almost painful, like a slap they never saw coming.
