chapter1202
Mona knew her mom was making sense, but she just couldn't let it go. "You saw
what happened. I just wanted to stay a little longer and spend some time with Mikey, but Mr. Jefferson wouldn't have it."
Mrs. Brown gave her hand a gentle pat. "Why are you in such a hurry? They've already agreed to let you and Mikey be together, but of course they're still worried. When Mikey comes to Maple Town to visit, things will be on our turf.
Mona pouted, restless. "But when is he ever going to come see me?"
"These things can't be rushed. Let's go back home first. In a couple of days, I'll call Mikey myself and invite him over. When he comes..." Mrs. Brown leaned in close and whispered something in Mona's ear. Whatever she said did the trick. Mona's sulky face broke out into a huge smile, and she happily got in the car with her mom.
Watching the two finally leave, Mikey let out a long, deep breath. Those two were exhausting. If they really became his wife and mother-in-law, he wasn't sure he'd survive.
Once they were gone, Grandpa Samuel finally turned to Lydia and started asking for details about the Brown family. Lydia shared her thoughts with him and Mikey. "I think someone in the Brown family might have been replaced by a clone. I don't know who yet, but I need to dig a little more."
Grandpa Samuel was shocked at first, then his expression turned serious as he clasped his hands tightly. "Clones? So those countries finally went through with it?
Back when he was still working, Grandpa Samuel had heard rumors that certain countries wanted to develop cloning, but the United Nations shot it down. He never imagined that clones would end up being smuggled into their own country. No wonder Lydia was being so careful. This was serious.
Mikey was just as stunned. He never thought the truth would be this wild. "Lydia, is there anything you need me to do?"
Lydia thought it over. "They'll probably call you in a few days and ask you to come to Maple Town. When they do, I'll go with you quietly."
Mikey nodded right away. "Okay."
Mr. Jefferson and Mikey tried to get Lydia to stay for lunch, but she said she had other things to take care of and couldn't stick around.
On the way, Nina texted her back. She was planning to go to the Norwood estate to meet Lucinda. After everything Lucinda had done to smear her name, Nina wasn about to just let it slide and take the blame it was only then that Nina
found out Lydia was actually the real Norwood heiress. No wonder Lucinda had sought her out-she wanted to use her as a pawn. What a nasty piece of work!
When Lydia got close to the Norwood villa, she waited at the curb
Nina's car. This was Nina's
first time visiting so shed even brought along a gift.
Lucinda was already a bundle of nerves after what Lydia had pulled before she left. She never expected Nina to show up so soon, especially not with Lydia by her side. For a moment, she just froze, completely blindsided. A wave of panic hit her, stronger than anything she'd felt before.
When Lucinda and Kylie saw Nina, they were both a little thrown off.
"Miss Powell, welcome."
Nina gave a polite smile. Sorry for dropping by unannounced, Mrs. Norwood. I hope it's not inconvenient."
"Of course not. We're so happy to have you. Please, have a seat. Did you come together?" Kylie asked, surprised to see them arrive at the same time.
Lydia answered, "We ran into each other at the party yesterday, then bumped into each other at the intersection just now."
Nina nodded, still smiling. "Yeah, if Miss Norwood hadn't shown me the way, I might have gotten lost."
As she spoke, Nina's gaze turned razor-sharp, locking right onto Lucinda.
