Chapter 263

chapter263

Garrett had a bunch of things left to do, but he just nodded. "No problem. Saving lives is what doctors do. I'll see you later."

"Yeah, see you."

As soon as they stepped out of the operating room, a crowd gathered around them. Garrett slipped away, pulled out his phone, and called his mom back.

She picked up almost immediately, her voice full of worry. "Where have you been, you brat? Why didn't you answer your phone? Are you trying to make me worry myself sick?"

Garrett tried to calm her down. "I'm here now, aren't I? Relax. Something came up at the last minute, but it's sorted out. I'm heading back now."

"You could have at least let me know! You said your flight would land at three thirty and now it's seven!"

Alright, alright, I just got out of surgery. I'm coming home now. Let's talk when I get there."

He was about to hang up when she called out, "Wait."

He grinned. "Yes, Mother? Anything else?"

She couldn't help but laugh at his teasing. "Did you remember to get a present for your sister like I told you?"

Garrett raised an eyebrow, even though she couldn't see him. "And if I didn't?"

She huffed. "If you didn't, you might as well not bother coming home!"

Garrett laughed. "I got it, I got it. I'm on my way."

"Good. Come to the hospital first to visit your grandfather, and then we'll all go home to see your sister together."

"Got it."

Once he hung up, Garrett picked up his pace. He still had stuff to wrap up abroad, but this trip was

important. He wanted to see his net

grandfather, and even more, he wanted to finally meet his real sister. She'd been missing for eighteen years and he could only imagine what shed gone through. As her big brother, he wanted to be the first to welcome her home. No way he was letting his other three siblings beat him to it.

Meanwhile, Lydia had just come out of the operating room when Violette's family crowded around her. The elegant woman in front looked like she'd been crying for hours, her eyes red and swollen.

"Doctor, how's my daughter? Is she going to be okay?"

Earlier today, Elizabeth had nearly fainted when their driver Jordyn called. Her daughter had just come home from studying abroad, only to end up in the hospital the moment she landed. By the time Elizabeth got there Violette was already in surgery. She'd been waiting since four in the afternoon, every minute dragging by in agony.

Dr. Donley noticed the family looking at him, so he spoke up. "Don't worry. She was

the lead surgeon, and the operation went really well."

He wasn't about to take credit for someone else's work.

Elizabeth stared at Lydia, surprised at how young she was, but her shock quickly turned to gratitude. "Thank you, doctor. Thank you for saving my daughter."

She knew just how dangerous things had been for Violette. Hearing the surgery was a success felt like a miracle.

"No need to thank me. It was a team effort. She'll need to stay in the ICU for a couple of hours for observation. If everything looks good, she can move to a regular room and get some rest."

"Thank you, really, thank you."

Connor had been waiting nearby,

watching everyone thank Lydia. He couldn't help feeling proud. This was his fianc e, the girl he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. She was so amazing, she made him want to be better.

After giving the family all the details and saying goodbye to Dr. Donley, Lydia started walking over to Connor. She'd noticed him standing there. Before she could reach him, her phone rang. It was Kylie.

"Mom?"

"Lydia, are you almost done for the day? Your brother Garrett just got back. Can you come home for dinner tonight?"
