chapter872
Lucinda's mood soured instantly. Was Garrett really going to Capital Med School on business, or was he just giving Lydia a ride? Even if he did have something to do there, he had told Lydia in advance. Why not her, too? If she'd known, she would have packed her things and gone along. Honestly, Garrett was just playing favorites.
Garrett, are you in that much of a hurry? I don't have much to bring. I'll be ready in five minutes," she said, trying to sound casual.
Garrett looked mildly exasperated, but he didn't want to argue. He just nodded. "Fine, go on up and get your stuff.
Lucinda grinned and nodded, then shot Lydia a smug, victorious look, like she'd just beaten her at some game.
Lydia couldn't help but think Lucinda was so childish. She was already eighteen, technically an adult, but she acted like a kid, always showing off and competing for attention every single day.
Lucinda claimed she only needed five minutes, but she always packed way too much. Seven minutes went by, and there was still no sign of her.
Garrett finally turned to one of the maids. "Go check if Lucinda's ready."
The maid nodded and hurried upstairs.
Up in her room, Lucinda was still deciding which dresses to bring for the week. She'd already picked out her jewelry, makeup, and other essentials. Now she just had to choose the dresses. She was on a video call with Grace, holding up options for her to weigh in. Grace just smiled and told her that she'd look beautiful in anything.
"If you don't want to bring too many, just pick five," Grace suggested. Different colors and styles, that's enough."
Lucinda thought about it. "Alright, I'll do that. Wait, maybe I should bring two extra. I'm supposed to get my period this week. If I mess up my clothes, I'll need backups.
Grace nodded right away. "Good idea. I'll make you some herb tea tomorrow and bring it to school, help with your energy.
Lucinda was about to reply when there was a gentle knock at the door. Her keart jumped. She quickly told Grace goodbye and ended the call. No way could her family find out she was still talking to Grace, or they'd start suspecting her of plotting with Grace against Lydia again.
She hung up and yelled, not bothering to hide her irritation, Who is it?"
"It's me, Miss," the maid called from outside. "Garrett asked me to see if you're ready."
Lucinda frowned. "Almost. Give me two more minutes."
"Okay."
Once she heard the footsteps fade away, Lucinda muttered under her breath, "So annoying. It's just a couple of minutes. Why are they rushing me? Before, if Garrett was taking me somewhere, he'd wait half an hour without complaining. Screw them!"
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She wished Lydia would just disappear, taking all her things and leaving Lucinda's life the way it used to be. She hurriedly folded her clothes and stuffed th m into her suitcase, then headed out. The suitcase was heavy, making her wobble as she walked.
When she got downstairs and saw a maid waiting, Lucinda snapped, What are you even here for? You knew I was packing. Why didn't you offer to help with my suitcase?"
The maid looked hurt but quickly took the suitcase from her. Lucinda, we tried to go up with you earlier, but you told us to wait downstairs."
Lucinda scowled, ready to lecture her more, but Garrett called out, "Lucinda, let's go. We're leaving."
She bit her tongue and let it go.
At the car, Lucinda rushed to open the front passenger door, then glanced back at Lydia. "Sis, I get carsick in the back. Can I have the front seat?"
